So Sassy (my 22 year old daughter) and I went for a walk on the Mountain Bay Trail this morning. This is a trail near our apartment which is on an old railroad bed and it is like being in the forest in the middle of town. Apparently the infestation of the "Wooly Bear" caterpillars is on today. Sassy has never really grown up and I despair of her ever really doing so. She is still fascinated with critters and frogs and small creepy crawly things. She collected 20 of the darn caterpillars off the trail this morning and carried them in her hands the entire two mile walk! She tried to enlist my help in holding them, but I was having none of it! None of it, I tell you!
She could NOT wait to get back home and show them to Mr. Trucker, who pushed her back out the apartment door and wouldn't let her in until we got them (the caterpillars) into a pickle jar. She then spent the next half an hour playing with them and photographing them ad nauseum! Her research yielded the following:
