One Day, Six States

Pretty ambitious undertaking, no? We woke up in Ohio today and will drive through Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and end up in Brattleboro, Vermont. I was pretty excited when I found out where we were going, as I love the New England states. My best friend, Deb, and I took a motorcoach tour of New England in September of 2009, and we had a blast! The only unfortunate thing about today's journey is that it was dark already before we got out of New York, so I'm missing a lot of the scenery. Hopefully I'll see more of it tomorrow.

Here's a pretty shot of Wilkes-Barre, PA.

We kind of skirted around Scranton, which was a shame, because I wanted to try to get a shot of Dunder Mifflin for Sassy. Actually, I DO know that Dunder-Mifflin is a fictional company (on tThe Office), but Sassy claims that there is a clock tower in Scranton which is featured on the show.

Here's a shot of the Hudson River Valley, around Mr. Trucker's head

Hudson River Valley

One thing which seems to hold true no matter where we go is that all the BEST scenery is on Mr. Trucker's side of the truck, ALWAYS! It's so frustrating.

We stopped in Fishkill, NY, to make a WalMart run, because we were out of bottled water, and because the entire state of Vermont appears to only have four WalMarts. After WalMart, we made a quick stop at an A&W (stands for Amburgers and Woot Beer) to grab a quick bite. I had to smile when I heard the locals ordering at the counter. There's none of this "I'd like..." or "Could I please have...?" like you hear in the Midwest. When they order in New York, it's "Give Me..." or "I Want...". I have heard this from other people as well. When I worked at a bank in Green Bay, we would always say "What may I help you with today?", but one of my coworkers told me that the bank employees in New York would say "Whadda YOU want?". I don't know how true that is, but listening to the customers in that A&W tonight, I can believe it.

We're currently tooling through Connecticut and Mr. Trucker is on a rant about the "retired hippies in Connecticut who are all married to the 55 MPH Federal speed limit that hasn't been a law since the 1980's". He creacks me up!

Sassy taunted us last night with cellphone pictures she took at Punch Neopolitan Pizza in Minneapolis, our favorite place to eat there.

Neopolitan Pizza. Yum!

Today's Silly Sounding Place Name: Wappingers Falls, NY.

  1. I think Fishkill should've been the wacky name of the day! Where do they come up with these names?? It rained ALL weekend in this neck of the woods and the colors are almost completely gone. I sure enjoy the pix of the Fall colors that you send.

  2. I think my vote for silly name was Fishkill, but as this isn't my blog, I was over ruled. In fact, I am frequently over ruled on this issue. There are so many silly names sometimes that it is hard to settle on just one. I usually prefer names with "K" sounds in them, because "K" sounds rank high on the humor scale according to the experts and I would have to agree. I also like it if the "K" sounds are accompanied by "P" sounds, like Poughkeepsie.
